Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs) In the Forefront

The EPA sent out a statement outlining steps and precautions that building owners and school administrators should take to reduce occupant exposures to PCBs that might be found in caulking.  The EPA considers this a serious issue, especially when it involves school age children.  Buildings built or renovated between 1950 and 1978 may have caulking that contains PCBs, a known carcinogen.

Air sampling for PCBs as well as testing of caulk can be accomplished to determine if a health risk exists.  Facilities scheduled for remodeling or demolition should have caulking tested to ensure proper control measures are implemented to maintain safe levels of airborne PCBs.  AMI Environmental can perform this testing and provide you with the information and recommendations you need to address PCBs in your facilities.
