AMI Environmental is regularly called upon for healthcare renovation and maintenance projects, hazardous materials management, microbial and indoor air quality problems, pre-demolition surveys and construction-related infection control.
In the past year, we have handled projects that range from emergency infection control situations to extensive hazardous materials investigations to regular Indoor Air Quality and water system monitoring and testing. We are adept at working in various healthcare environments, including private hospitals, healthcare clinics, university medical centers, and Department of Defense installations.
Healthcare Projects
Customer: UNMC
Location: Nebraska
Services Provided: Asbestos Consulting, Environmental Investigation, Remediation, Industrial Hygiene
Status: On-going
Project Summary:
AMI Environmental began providing asbestos consulting services to the 23-building campus in 1986. At that time, an initial environmental assessment had been completed which would later be used for future asbestos abatement and renovations. Since then, AMI has been the sole provider of asbestos abatement consulting and analytical services. We have completed approximately 100 asbestos projects on campus, and nearly every building on the 67-acre medical campus has been under the abatement management of AMI. Other environmental services AMI routinely provides include remediation design, and indoor air quality monitoring.
Customer: Regional Hospital
Services Provided: Legionella Testing
Status: Conducted Annually
Project Summary:
AMI was hired to conduct Legionella water testing for a large healthcare facility. Sample collection and monitoring is performed in accordance with the American Society of Heating Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) guideline 12-2000. Scope of services includes ongoing water sample collection and legionella control monitoring. Strategic sampling locations are identified within the building water systems, and if necessary outside of the building. Tank and pre-flush samples are then collected utilizing appropriate methods and cultured on specific media for the presence of Legionella bacteria. Samples will be collected quarterly and a formal report addressing laboratory results and findings will be received within 2 days of the receipt of sampling results. Facility is approximately 135,000 sq. feet and includes 34 specialty clinics and employs 1, 750 people.
Customer: Large Regional Hospital Under Construction
Services Provided: Industrial Hygiene, Mold and Moisture, Infection Prevention, Emergency Response
Project Overview:
AMI provided an emergency response following moisture intrusion due to an incomplete building envelope and temporary roofing system failure. The emergency response included an Industrial Hygiene site investigation and baseline assessment of absorbent building materials impacted by moisture intrusion.
Personnel conducted a visual inspection of the affected area and used thermal infrared imaging to identify non-visible moisture damage to materials conducive to microbial growth. The moisture content of drywall was measured using a portable moisture meter. AMI also provided recommendations for remediation and replacement efforts to be completed prior to recommencement of construction activities.
Customer: Large Hospital & Research Center Under Construction
Services Provided: Environmental Site Investigation, Emergency Response, Infection Control, Mold and Moisture
Project Summary:
AMI Environmental was contacted to complete a comprehensive site investigation and baseline assessment of absorbent building materials impacted by torrential wind-driven rains on multiple levels of the 10-story research tower and eight-story clinical tower under construction. AMI was also tasked with assessing air handling units contaminated by water intrusion to ensure climate and air quality control for future occupants. Remediation and cleaning recommendations based on the site assessment were provided to resolve identified risks and prevent ensuing water and microbial issues in the healthcare and research facility.
